2012 GALLERY SCHEDULE

January 2012
Henri Matisse wanted to “recapture that freshness of vision which is characteristic of extreme youth when all the world is new to it.”

Visitors to Artworks and the Chestertown Arts League have the opportunity to see through childrens’ eyes during an exhibit of work by students at seven local elementary schools-- Garnett, Worton, Millington, Rock Hall, Galena, Radcliffe Creek and Kent School from January 6-28.

In 2011 Artworks expanded its childrens’ programs, particularly for those in grades K through 5. State budget cuts have drastically curtailed the art programs in the schools as well as in the extended day programs. Thus, schools are not able to offer the benefits that art instruction provides, such as improving manual dexterity, allowing for exploration of various materials, stimulating creative thinking and problem solving, teaching good craftsmanship, and increasing self-esteem.

The purpose of the exhibits are to raise awareness of the importance of art in the lives of children and show the support by the community to stimulate creativity in youngsters.
